We have a few new faces at GHS this year, so we wanted to take a second to let everyone get to know them a little better. Welcome to our new High School Special Education teacher, Mrs. Penny Arcement!
What is your name?
Penny Arcement
What do your students call you?
Mrs. Penny
How long have you been teaching? How long have you been at Gueydan High?
This is my first year!
What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
Science nerd for sure!
What do you love most about being a Gueydan Bear?
I absolutely love the small town community vibe! Everyone, adults and students combined, has been so welcoming!
Who or what inspired you to be a teacher?
My college professor, Toby Daspit. His teaching style is what really made me want to teach. It was hands on, collaborative, and truly student led. Exactly how I envisioned I would one day get to teach.
What's the farthest you've ever been from home?
Hawaii
What's your favorite team(s)?
Ummm I better say the Gueydan Bears right??!
Do you have any collections? If so, of what?
I collect glitter. Lots of glitter. Yep. Long story. lol
What's your favorite meal?
At home: spaghetti with made from scratch sauce; Restaurant probably sushi
What's something you learned through failure?
You get back up. Don’t let failure define who you are.
What does leadership mean to you?
A leader is someone people WANT to follow. Caring and compassionate. Someone who will guide and model. The one that sets the example for the rest.
If you could go back in time to when you were your students' age and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Don’t try to grow up so fast. Take your time, slow down and enjoy the life in front of you.
What's one thing people would never guess about you?
I owned and operated a crafting business from 2019 - 2023. Hence the glitter comment earlier. lol
Do you have any favorite memories from your time in school?
The most memorable times when I look back to high school were probably in my English teacher’s class. I loved her class. She just made it very interesting and a place you felt safe to communicate your thoughts.
Could you tell us a little about your family?
I have 4 kids, Grace, Andrew, Joseph and Eleanor. We also have a pup named Millie Mae.
What are a few things you couldn't live without?
My kids, electricity, and air conditioning

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
