Student Spotlight

Some of the best students and teachers in Louisiana are right here in Gueydan, and we think they deserve some recognition, so this is our chance to get to know them a little better. This is our Student Spotlight on GHS 12th Grader and 2022 Homecoming Queen, Kyndal Hanks.

What's your name?

Kyndal Rae Hanks

Do you have a nickname?

A lot of people call me K-Dog but I really wish I had a different answer for this question.

What grade are you currently in?

12th Grade

Are you a part of any clubs, activities, or sports here at GHS?

I am president of the Senior Beta Club and Senior Class Vice President. I am also a part of the Powerlifting Team and Varsity Softball Team.

What do you love about being a Gueydan Bear?

I love how intimate the class atmosphere is. There is no class I take where I do not know the names of all the students or where I do not feel comfortable talking to them.

What's your favorite class this year?

My favorite class is my DE Math class because it is the most difficult so any bit of success is incredibly rewarding.

Who's your favorite teacher you've ever had at GHS? What did you love about being in their class?

My favorite teacher has been Ms. Shari Touchet. She taught English II and I loved how much she cared about her students. She took the time to work with each student individually rather than making her whole class fit into one criteria.

What's your favorite school lunch (served in our beautiful new cafeteria)?

My favorite lunch would be the gumbo. I can not wait for the cold days when they start serving it again.

What event(s) do you look forward to the most at school every year and why?

I always look forward to homecoming week even though it is the most stressful week. It is filled with people who are motivated for something whether it is the class competitions, the game, or the dress up days.

If you could pick any 3 GHS students to go with you on a cross country road trip, who would they be and where would you go?

I would choose Hayden Meaux, Cora Lamson, Annalise Breaux, and Kaylee Vincent. I know that is four people but Cora does not count as one because we are the same person. I would probably want to go to Nashville with them because they have such a variety of attractions.

What's your best/favorite memory from your time as a Gueydan Bear so far?

My favorite memory would be my senior Homecoming Game. Being on court for the last time was really emotional but it was euphoric to have all my friends and family support me.

If you could give one piece of advice to future Gueydan Bears, what would it be?

Realize that you are only in high school and you still have time to do anything you want. Do not tie yourself down to one career path, relationship, or any status quo.

Do you have any music, books, movies, or TV shows that you love?

I love the movie "Jennifer's Body" mostly because I love Megan Fox. I also love the book "The Virgin Suicides" because it is written in such an interesting point of view and even though you know how the story ends, it still manages to shock you.

Do you have any interests or hobbies outside of school?

I can not keep one hobby for more than a month but one thing I do stay consistent with is I always try to find new restaurants to eat at. I guess that could be considered an interest or hobby.

What are your goals for the future?

I plan to get a PhD in psychology. I want to start at McNeese and I will figure out where to get my Masters and PhD when I get there. I want to either stick with being a clinical psychologist or possibly become a professor in psychology.
