Staff Spotlight

Some of the best students and teachers in Louisiana are right here in Gueydan, and we think they deserve some recognition, so this is our chance to get to know them a little better. This is our GHS Staff Spotlight on Ms. Crystal Patin.

What's your name?

Crystal Patin

What do your students call you?

Ms. Crystal

How long have you been teaching? How long have you been at Gueydan High?

First year for both

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

English

What do you love most about being a Gueydan Bear?

The atmosphere, and seeing the students get excited about class

What's something you learned through failure?

Life is too short to stay caught up in all the small details. Do things that bring you joy, from there you will find success.

What does leadership mean to you?

I believe leadership is when you share the knowledge and skills you've obtained to help others reach their goals.

If you could go back in time to when you were your students' age and give them advice, what would it be?

My advice would be to ignore drama and negativity, and to stay focused on the important things in life, such as family, friendships, education and goals.

Could you tell us a little about your family?

I'm a mother to two amazing boys, a 14 year old freshman and a 5 year old who has down syndrome. Although I'm not married, I have a significant other and 3 bonus boys, ages 14, 11 and 7. I am greatly outnumbered, but they keep life interesting.

What are a few things you couldn't live without?

My kiddos and sarcasm

What's your favorite quote?

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
